Goaltending has been talked to death on this board so i wont comment on that.

Picking 6-9 Im getting very excited of the idea of Dubois. We really dont need D as we have a lot of solid prospects coming up, so i disagree somewhat, Todd, we should look somewhat towards need on the wing.

Picking 2nd overall. Im good with either Finn. Puju has a better 200ft game and i believe will be the better, more rou ded player. He's more of a set up guy so maybe putting him with Bennett would be a great pairing. Laine would be awesome too because he is a pure goal scorer. The issue i have with Laine is that he seems to play a lot on the LW. Also, I've read rumblings of a possible locker room problem. Nothing substantiated, but maybe. Either way, though, getting one if those 2 would make me extremely happy.

Todd, trading for Freddy Andersen is easier said than done. Especially the ducks trading him to us, a division rival there is little chance especially with what the asking price would be. Vasilevsky/Bishop is more realistic, the price would still be very high but BT will have little choice given last years goaltending. And Wideman is basically unmovable unless you throw in a 2nd and maybe a 3rd as well

On the draft, I strongly believe that if Laine, Puljujarvi were centers they would be drafted ahead of Matthews hands down. Teams see center though as the more desirable position and rightfully so, but I believe the 2 fins could be selected ahead of Matthews simply based on talent and not position.

As for fixing the D. I think it would be a mistake to trade assets for one at this point due to the pending expansion lottery. We can only protect 3 unless we go for the protect 8 skaters option. Get rid of Wideman if we can and hopefully Smid hoes to LTIR then we can resigns Naks and TSpoon. Engs would be a fine #7 for 1 more year.

Man see as how FA is playing now - and just seeing Martin Jones do his ex team in the first round - I think Murray would trade FA to Jupiter before letting that happen to the Ducks -

Maybe laine could be selected before mattews if they were centres but not puljujarvi

At 6-9, Clayton Keller is a bit of a stretch in my opinion. He is small, and there is higher risk with taking a guy that early in the USHL. Luke Kunin is actually higher on my list, he ripped it up in Wisconsin. In order I'd like to see Dubois, Nylander, Chychrun, Juolevi, Or McLeod. If we are that unfortunate, I'd also like to see us try and trade down into 10-15 and hope McLeod is still there, or pick up Gauthier, Bean or Kunin if it means we pick up an extra 2nd or so. Their will be a lot of talent remaining in the 40's, 50's and 60's. ( Bitten, Day, Dineen, Steel, Thompson) If all those assets aren't packaged in a trade, Carter Hart would be a nice add to our goaltending pipeline.

I haven't seen anyone suggest a move for Calvin Pickard, he has some pretty solid numbers playing for an even worse possession team than us. We could probably get him for one of our 2nd round picks. He is also only 24 and could be a good stop gap until Gillies is ready. Plus he will be a way cheaper option than Reimer or Andersen.

This team needs size on the forward ranks, hopefully this is somewhat addressed after the first round.

You're assuming he'd be cheaper. You're also assuming COL would be ok trading him in our div. just like Andersen. Maybe Pickard is the guy they would want to protect? But, if he could be had for relatively cheap, I'd consider going with he and Ortio. Risky as there is no proven tender in the those 2 but it could work out.

Well I honestly don't see how he wouldn't be cheaper cap wise, he is a backup goalie and I don't see Colorado getting rid of Varlamov any time soon. I think he is a good target and actually has some good potential to be a #1 goalie. Colorado is also in the central so I really don't think it's a big deal trading with us.

Martin Jones when traded had almost had identical stats and number of starts as Pickard. And it was a 1st round pick, mid level prospect for him.

Asking price is going to be the same, solid stats, under 23 years old who who can be a starter. 2nd round picks arent going to get it done since other teams will pay more than that

You would think that but, Av's Management can't trade worth poop, we'll give a mid level prospect & let them think he's an A prospect & one of our 2nd's. You heard it here first.

This from the organization that offer sheeted O'Reilly - If they were successful in their offer sheet maneuvre, the Flames would have had to put O'Reilly through waivers. They could have lost him to another team as well as the first and third-round draft picks they would have given the Avalanche as compensation.....

This from (a fan of) the organization that has had 4 of the last 6 #1 overall picks (+ a #3 and a #7 in that time) and STILL placed 29th this year and STILL looks like a dumpster fire on the ice.

Do you hear me singing my team praises?

I'm simply saying that you should not say that other organizations managements are crap and your going to take advantage of them....all teams have made some pretty bad moves and some good ones...

But there is no way your going to force them to take your crap offer and say thanks.

Nah, Colorado's management group is trash, your example was a weak attempt at trolling and the Oilers will pick 1st overall in 2017.

The people who did that got canned so not much else you can do about that. At least the Flames seem to get rid of people who prove they're incompetent unlike many other franchises.

I wonder what the Flames would offer Philly for Neuvirth? Mason is their number one and Neuvirth is way to good to be a back up. For the right price he might be just what the Flamws are looking for.
